Modeling Sensuality

This shot featuring Tanya Borreli is an excellent example of sensuality. Expression is always the model’s goal, and to make it powerful and have versatility, she must be feeling the emotion she wishes to convey.

A photo set is a busy place, and generally speaking, nothing is happening that would make a model feel amorous or passionate. An essential skill a model should master is the art of visualization to “get into character.” The very best models can imagine a scene so vividly they feel as if that thing they are imagining is happening. When they do, the expression is real, and the camera captures even the most subtle truths about how that model is feeling.

Those are the most compelling pictures. The most important thing at a shoot then is to do everything possible to help a model get into character.

The way Tanya is caressing her neck, the angle of her jawline, the very distinct expression on her face…these are the things that make this picture so captivating. Notice that while her legs are apart and she is topless, you cannot see her breasts or between her legs. Her expression, body position, and lighting are all intended to spark the imagination as one’s imagination is far more effective at awakening the senses and prolonging the experience than actually seeing what is hidden.

That is sensuality.
