Elaine Goodlad was styling hair for her neighbors when she was a teenager, and it was years later that she finally went to school and became licensed as a cosmetologist and hairstylist. Elaine had the busiest chair in the salon where she worked and an even busier one in the first salon that she owned. As much as she loved doing hair, makeup was the medium that awoke the artist in her.
“I got into doing makeup professionally out of necessity. I always did my makeup, and I did it for friends. I was at a photoshoot as a model, and for some reason, we didn’t have a makeup artist, so I jumped in. I did makeup for a modeling agency for a year or so after that, then later on, when I retired from competing, makeup became my career.”
Long before Elaine ever picked up a makeup brush, she was an artist. She loved to sketch and without any formal training, she was able to draw breathtaking characatures. Makeup was just another medium for her to express herself.
“I use makeup to shape, contour, and balance the model’s face, not cover it up. Each face like is a canvas to me, it’s like painting a picture.”
Elaine is one of the top makeup artists in the fitness industry now boasting the world’s top Fitness, Figure, Bikini, and Physique personalities as her clients. She is also the preferred makeup artist at many of the top IFBB events around the globe and a favorite among photographers.
In this lead image Elaine was doing makeup on Hoami Vu at the Boca Raton, Florida photoshoot we did for Issue One. She is one of the very best and we are thankful to have her as our lead makeup artist for Modlbody Magazine.
